Cameron's Surgery

On Wednesday Cameron had minor surgery to correct his circumcision. My sister Rachel was so nice to come to our house at 5:15 to stay with Natalie and Ella since we had to check into the hospital at 6am. After checking in we changed Cameron into his hospital gown and then the nurse checked his vitals to make sure he was healthy enough for the surgery. He was give some Tylenol and we waited for our turn in the operating room.


Once it was our turn we went downstairs to the pre-surgery waiting room. Cameron played with some toys and was doing so well! His doctor came and talked to us one last time and explained all that he would be doing. Then the anesthesiologist explained how she would sedate Cameron and all the ways she would be monitoring him during the surgery. He was first put to sleep with some gas and once he was out was given an IV and cotal block. The cotal block is just like an epidural but has almost no risk of nerve damage because in young children the nerves branch off and the needle doesn't get close to them.

After talking with the doctors Eric and I had to leave and wait in the family waiting room. It was really hard to watch them take Cameron away. After a VERY long hour the doctor came and told us that things went really well and they would come and get us when he was awake. I was able to then go and sit with him until we could take him back upstairs. He looked so small in this big metal crib with all these things hooked up to him but he was really happy to see me.

Back upstairs we were able to give him a bottle and the nurse gave him some Tylenol with Codeine.

After a bit of recovery time we got to take him home! He has been doing really well and has had no side effects from the surgery. Being in that hospital made me realize how blessed we are to have 3 healthy children and that hospital visits are not a common event for us.

Easter Eggs

Last night for our FHE activity we dyed Easter eggs. The kit I bought was a bit differnet from the traditional dunking egg in cup of dye. The girls put the eggs in plastic bags and then added the coloring. When they were done they sprinkled glitter on them. The glitter makes them really pretty, but messy when it comes time to peel them to eat.

The Flower Underwear

Ella has this one pair of underwear, they are the plainest pair she has, but for some reason they are her favorites. For a period of about 2 weeks she wanted this pair everyday. So every night I would wash them so we wouldn't have a meltdown in the morning because they weren't clean. One day I didn't do it. Maybe I was just too tired, maybe I was hoping she would just pick a different pair, I don't know. So after she got out of the bath she wanted her flower underwear. When I said they weren't clean the response was not a good one. So I started some laundry and thought I could just get her to put on another pair and she would forget about it. No such luck. She sat in front of the wash the whole time! I am happy to say she has broadened her range of acceptable underwear.

Super Why Ella and Natalie

There is this really cute cartoon on PBS called Super Why. Ella loves to watch it and pretend play it too. Today she said "I just keep getting grumpy. See it says right here in my story (pointing down and moving her hand across like she is reading a sentence) Ella keeps getting grumpy" Then Natalie says, "Super Why to the rescue. I can change Ella's story. Zap."

Maybe its because its Monday

I am sure that other moms have mornings, okay days, like the one we are having but maybe it just isn't brought up that much. I know there is often that pressure (at least I feel it) to be the perfect mom who never loses her patience and can remain calm no matter what, so maybe it isn't information people are volunteering. It seems that the minute my girls wake up the start bugging each other, fighting, teasing, etc. It usually starts with where they get to be in my bed, then moves on to the spot at the table for breakfast, etc. Sometimes they can get along really well (usually in the tub where there is nothing to play with and no room, go figure) but I feel like they spend a great deal of time not getting along. So if anyone has suggestions for sibling harmony or parenting tips on the subject feel free to leave a comment. I can use all the help I can get, especially on days like today.

Pictures

On Saturday I made an appointment to get the kids' pictures taken since I don't have a professional one of all three of them. I made the appointment for a time that worked well with their schedules. We had to check in 10 min early and we ended up waiting a hour before it was our turn! It was stressful to try and keep the kids happy and under control for the wait. After a few poses I cut the sitting short because Cameron was getting unhappy, Natalie kept kissing him instead of smiling and Ella just wanted to play with the props. The picture at the top of the blog was the best one. I thought it turned out pretty well for the kids and I being pushed to the limit.

Ella always keeps me laughing

Ella has quite the sense of humor, whether she knows it or not. A few days ago I was running so errands with Natalie and Eric put on a DVD for Ella and sat down on the couch to play golf on his computer. Ella climbs up on the couch to sit next to him and he says "Ella watch your Book of Mormon movie". Ella points to one eye and says "This is my Book of Mormon Eye" and then points to her other eye, "and this is my golf eye."

Well I have finally decided to do the blog thing. I am not sure how much people really want to know about what is going on in my life, but I think it will be a good way for me to journal since I haven't been too successful with other attempts. I need to figure out my way around and how to make it cute.
